I am a native speaker of Portuguese I hear many people in other countries that Spanish is pretty cute but I think Spanish Portuguese is more beautiful. Among the Romance languages so I sort of beauty: Italian Portuguese Spanish French Portuguese is the fifth most spoken language in the world Brazilian singers singing in Portuguese http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CXPdpk5MWw Colombian singer singing in Spanish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWkQbrfSvfs&ob=av2n Give your opinion please

I know the answer will most likely be no. Coffee, tea, standing on your head, I know that that doesn't work. I would really adore to stay my current height. I'm 15, female, 5'7. I talk German, French, Portuguese and English, and I met my boyfriend through a language program, before my last birthday. He is 19. No worries about sex, it is mostly long distance, and he wants to respect the law. We are legal in my country, but not his. Now that I have that out of the way, I wish to not be seeing many comments on that. I adore him. He is 5'10. I am 5'7. My parents are around, 6'0 and 6'3. I do not want to be taller than my beau.. and seeing as there is probably no way to stunt growth, maybe somebody has an estimate on around how tall I will be? If I will still grow alot? Or maybe, just some advice for me if I do become the taller one. Thank you! I will pick best answer.

I have taken almost a year of Spanish in highschool, as well as studying it on my possess, and I am thinking of taking up Portuguese. The reasons, though not every of them, are the following: (a) Brazil is a fascinating country, as is Portugal, though not as much as Brazil. (b) Portuguese is, in my opinion, a far prettier language than Spanish. (c) I was told by a french teacher at my school that Portuguese is somewhere between Spanish and French. I am learning Spanish, and eventually I want to learn French. So I should probably learn Portuguese too. (d) For some odd reason, I am just attracted to Portuguese. I do not even know why, but it is such an attractive language for me. However, I am not even intermediate Spanish. I am not beginner, far from it, but I have not yet reached the midpoint. I can have conversations, simple ones, but I cannot discuss, say, the political tide in Mexico, or anything too complicated. I am wondering if my Spanish is not yet good enough to start Portuguese without mixing the two up?

Greetings, I am having a difficult time deciding whether I should achieve a good level of fluency in Mandarin Chinese within the next five years, or become fluent in multiple other languages given that time-frame. I’m currently fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. My interests remain within Latin American relations, the CIA, the U.N., and other possible career paths dealing with international relations. I will be interning in DC next year again, and will head off to graduate school afterwards. I have five years to really concentrate on my career path and do the things that will make me a strong candidate for my interests. Opinions vary on how difficult learning Chinese is and how long it takes to become fluent, but it seems like everyone agrees it will take many years, including the time to allow myself to undergo a complete immersion experience within the country. Given that same amount of time and work, I could potential become fluent in multiple other languages, especially if I look into other Romance languages (i.e. French, Italian, Romanian) or Germanic languages. My language skills will be either of these scenarios in the next five years. Of the two, which sound like the best option: - English - Spanish - Portuguese - Chinese or - English - Spanish - Portuguese - French - Indonesian - Romanian I would pick French because it is an international language much like English, Spanish and Portuguese; Indonesian because it is an Asian language with over 100 million speakers; and Romanian because it is an Eastern European language closely related to the relax of the romance languages. I believe I could learn these three within five years (I picked up Portuguese in less than half). Opinions? Other possible language combinations are more than welcomed, thanks!

Brazilian Portuguese (Portuguese: português brasileiro or português do Brasil; pt-BR) is the group of dialects of the Portuguese language written and spoken by roughly every of ...

I'm trying to learn Portuguese, it's such a great language and I need a penpal to practise with. Any takers, native speakers? My email address should be displayed on my profile, so don't hesitate to write if you have time. Obrigada!

Does this have anything to do with the music or anything of that effect? I'm a native Spanish speaker and I've noticed that 90%, if not more, of Spanish music is romantic. It's always about the adore that got away, the girl/guy he/she loved, etc... everything is always surrounding the subject of adore and everything else attached to it. You'll never hear any Spanish tune about rims, Cadillacs, bling-bling or anything like that. Reggaeton tried to introduce some of that due to it's influence from rap and hip-hop but it almost always reverts to the same, the subject of adore and hooking up and whatnot.

Mostly Latin Europeans and Italian-Americans, denying our latinity. They say that we are not Latins, because we are mixed with Sud-Saharan Africans, Amerindians, Arabs and Europeans, but it really pisses me off, how much they ignore about this side of the world. Latino is a term used to refer to a person whose culture is strongly influenced by the ancient Roman culture. We are every descendants of the relax of the world, but that doesn't mean our culture stopped being Latin. The Spaniards, French and Portuguese arrived to Latin America to evangelize Amerindians and to tutor them Spanish, Portuguese and French. Everything that was Amerindian was destroyed, and not having enough with that they brought Africans and acculturated them as well, making us practically every Spaniards/French/Portuguese. Then we seceded making our possess countries with the same Latin-based culture and using the same Romance language. They claim to be purely Latin descendant (genetically speaking) but no European is purely Latin, every of them descend from either Gauls, Thracians, Venetians, Umbrians, Franks or Lusitanian (none of them Latin). IT IS A CULTURAL ETHNIC TERM! And it was not created by Americans, it was created by the famous French emperor Napoléon Bonaparte (a Latin) to talk about the Spanish and Portuguese colonies that wanted to become independent at the time. He supported the Latin American secession and he was the inspiration to reveal against the conquerors. And why is it that Italian-Americans claim to be Latino, if many of them barely talk Italian and have forgetten already their Italian roots. Do you think that being Italian is making pizza, being racist and tanning like an sausage in an oven? If you won't answer, don't do it! You don't waste your time and don't stand like idiots answering my "stupid" question. You don't understand, it's not genetical! It's just cultural! Latin American is a Latino who is born in the Americas. Comme on it's not so difficult! Psychedelic Templar: Yeah, Latinos as Thierry Henry! = D or Nicolas Anelka! Jamel Debouzze? I couldn't really understand how can French deny Latin Americans, but you don't deny yourselves: Nicolas Sarkozy is even a Jewish/Hungarian. LOL! That shows me that race is nothing, when talking about Latinos. It's just a cultural term! French descend from Franks and Gauls mainly, nor Latins. ^ _ ^ You were just acculturated as we Latin American were. Don't make me start talking about France, I've been there thousands of times and my dad is French! ^ _ ^. Not the most Latin one. TELL ME IF THIS HAS ANY LOGIC: You are not Latino, you a White! XD It would more logical for many, but they'd be wrong, since it's not a racial term, it's an ethnic one!

As in terms of being able to relay information quick. I am thinking portuguese german and italian sorry about misspelling efficient i agree with you on english but than again english for non native speakers is very challenging to learn as the language is not spoken as written.

Please rank them in order. Dutch Portuguese German Spanish French

What are some fun ways to incorporate multiple languages into our wedding? We don't want to repeat everything 3 times, but we want everyone to feel included in our celebration of adore. If you have any fun ideas, or have any experience with a similar situation, any feedback would be greatly appreciated :) We know it's not super important that they hear every word translated, we just want to make sure his family is greatly considered since they are flying half way across the world for our wedding. It's in Florida, and we will have translated signs etc, but we were considering translating our vows and some of the ceremony onto cards so that they can follow along and feel included. There is a school starting a dual immersion program close by in Portuguese and my husband who is Brazilian wants her to redo first grade so she can be in the program. I would adore for her to have that experience as well however, I'm not so sure that it would be a good idea to make her repeat the grade just to receive the language experience. We both talk Portuguese fluently and when we put forth effort to talk it at home she picks things up... Send me your thoughts on our dilemna, opinions of educators and the like are much appreciated.

I can't add "Portuguese" to my languages on Facebook. I can only add it written in Portuguese but I want it in English! The second option when you type "Portu" is "Brazilian Portuguese" but I don't want that. Why do I have to use only their list? Why can't I type my possess entry? They are limiting my freedom. And how did that list receive created in the first place? I can't believe "Portuguese" does not exist! I don't want to change the language of my Facebook, I want to add "Portuguese" to the languages that I know. It only allows me to add "Português". This is not an English word and I want it written in English ("Portuguese").

I watch the epl at times and I'm like bored because martin taylor and sometimes andy grey are sooo dull. Not like portuguese commentators. At least it seems they put some passion into their work. Is the english language that dull? I know english culture is reserved, so is american but c'mon, we need passion! Like spanish, french, italian and portuguese we need english commentators to say, Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool................Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool..... Goooooooooool! Tooooooooooooooooooooor. That's nice :) Go red devils™

I was just wondering, I'm sure English is first but is Spanish a popular third or second language there? One day we and my pal were talking to each other in Spanish and i asked him if he learnt his spanish in portugal? He answered 'nah, I learnt French' with like a that was a waste time of time look on his face. I was so surprised because Portugal is next to Spain and spanish is such popular language! He said he knows and he wished he learnt Spanish instead as a second language after Portuguese (of course). He also told me that he wished they offered it there because with 2 years of french he can't remember any of it. So, do they offer Spanish there now? Also many of my Portuguese and Brazilian pal talk English,Portuguese, and Spanish here in the U.S.!

I have some difficulties in the pronunciation of some words. I wish someone here can help me, by giving me some tips (mainly in relation to spoken language). If you are interested in learning Brazilian Portuguese (and tutor me some English), please my skype: di.salam bye thanks

I did the following translation of an Abstract from Portuguese to English . Could anyone check that out for mistakes and help me with the corrections? Thanks a lot in advance. Palavras-chave: limiar; ambigüidade; imagem Abstract Our goal is to do a reading of the tale called “Famigerado”, by Guimarães Rosa, from the concept of “threshold” as to Walter Benjamin. We intend to articulate that concept with one of the most studied aesthetic categories of Guimarães Rosa’s work: ‘The Ambiguity’. Thus, the space of transition, which the narrative belongs to, integrates the ambiguous body of language, enabling not only the emergence of jokes by Damasio, the gunman, but also providing the character-narrator an opportunity to balance himself on the “threshold” of significance. If the concept of threshold in Benjamin allows a thought by image, similar process occurs in rosiana literary writing. Keywords: threshold; ambiguity; image.

Telling someone where I am from has always been a problem. I was born in Sydney, and lived there for 6 years. Later on I went with my mom to Spain where I spent 9 years studying at an international school, speaking english with almost everyone. Then I moved to Japan and lived there for a couple of years, finishing high school there. My mom is Spanish and Portuguese and my dad is Slovak and Russian. I have a step sister who is japanese, I have family every around the world. I have always said frontiers are just a couple of imaginary lines and that countries mean nothing to me, however, it is nice of weird if I tell this to someone who is asking me where I am from. Although I like Australia and a big part of my personality has been determined by Australia and I have an australian passport, I don't feel australian. I feel more european than australian. I also like Spain and it is where I spent most of my life. Spain is a beautiful country with warm-hearted people and gorgeous landscapes, but still I don't feel identified with the Spanish culture and its customs. I adore eastern europe, even though I have never lived there, I feel identified with what I have seen from there. My babushka (grand-mom) used to tell me great stories about how great was life until communism stroke. My dad's family has showed me their customs and traditions and I adore them. The thing is I can't say I'm from there because I have never lived there and I barely know their language (I plan on learning russian with my dad's help soon). I guess where I feel more "at home" is in Japan, I adore everything about the country and feel identified with it, I know Japan much more than any other country and I am fluent with the language(know it since I was 7). However, I am not japanese, I have a different body, different perceptions... And I can't answer saying:'I'm Japanese' They would take me as a liar and a wannabe. I'm really confused with this, please help me: where am I from????? Thanks :)

Portuguese Português Pronunciation: IPA: [puɾtu'geʃ] (European), [poɾtu'ges] (Brazilian) Spoken in: Angola, Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, and several other CPLP countries

English, Spanish, Portuguese, & French are the 4 most spoken languages in the Western Hemisphere. They're every European languages. The telescope, microscope, automobile, electricity, telephone, aircrafts, television, computers, jet engine, camera, refrigerator were every invented by Whites. Europe is a tiny continent. You can hate every you want, & focus on the negatives through out history. But I think it's impressive that people who make up less than 15% of the world's population basically have had the most impact on global culture & inventions. So White people having racial pride is the equivalent of a model saying she's pretty. Maybe it's wrong to state the obvious to others.

And ... What language do you think is more difficult to learn? I AM FROM BRAZIL, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK portuguese is my language :D

I realized that not many people know what being Latino, many think that Latin people are Spanish speakers in the Americas, but in fact the story is very well for about 1500 years ago there was a language called Latin in Europe, he was spoken in the region that now belongs to Italy, but soon left Rome and spread throughout much of Europe, that language was dying over time and is no longer spoken, but he left many kids, several languages derived from it, among these the most popular languages are Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese, these are European languages but European settlement in the world they spread in every continents. In short Latin people are people who talk an independent language such that she lives on the continent. Sorry my English I am from Latin America the only country in America that speaks Portuguese.

Here is the article: On my brother’s wall in Toronto are the untrue maps. Old portraits of Ceylon. The result of sightings, glances from trading vessels, the theories of sextant. The shapes differ so much they seem to be translations — by Ptolemy, Mercator, François Valentyn, Mortier, and Heydt — growing from mythic shapes into eventual accuracy. Amoeba, then stout rectangle, and then the island as we know it now, a pendant off the ear of India. Around it, a blue-combed ocean busy with dolphin and sea-horse, cherub and compass. Ceylon floats on the Indian Ocean and holds its naïve mountains, drawings of cassowary and boar who jump without perspective across imagined ‘desertum’1 and plain. At the edge of the maps the scrolled mantling depicts ferocious slipper-footed elephants, a white queen offering a necklace to natives who carry tusks and a conch, a Moorish king who stands amidst the power of books and armour. On the south-west corner of the island, their tails writhing in the waves. The maps reveal rumours of topography, the routes for invasion and trade, and the dark mad mind of travellers’ tales appears throughout Arab and Chinese and medieval records. The island seduced every of Europe. The Portuguese. The Dutch. The English. And so its name changed, as well as its shape, — Serendip, Ratnapida (“island of gems”), Taprobane, Zeloan, Zeilan, Seyllan, Ceilon, and Ceylon — the wife of many marriages, courted by invaders who stepped ashore and claimed everything with the power of their sword or bible or language. This pendant, once its shape stood still, became a mirror. It pretended to reflect each European power till newer ships arrived and spilled their nationalities, some of whom stayed and intermarried — my possess ancestor arriving in 1600, a doctor who cured the residing governor’s daughter with a odd herb and was rewarded with land, a foreign wife, and a new name which was a Dutch spelling of his possess. Ondaatje. A parody of the ruling language. And when his Dutch wife died, marrying a Sinhalese2 lady, having nine kids, and remaining. Here. At the centre of the rumour. At this point on the map. The article ends here. Ive read it a few times and really can not find out what the tone is...I dont even understand the plot or theme...
