Resolved Question: Will Portuguese mess up my Spanish?
I have taken almost a year of Spanish in highschool, as well as studying it on my possess, and I am thinking of taking up Portuguese. The reasons, though not every of them, are the following: (a) Brazil is a fascinating country, as is Portugal, though not as much as Brazil. (b) Portuguese is, in my opinion, a far prettier language than Spanish. (c) I was told by a french teacher at my school that Portuguese is somewhere between Spanish and French. I am learning Spanish, and eventually I want to learn French. So I should probably learn Portuguese too. (d) For some odd reason, I am just attracted to Portuguese. I do not even know why, but it is such an attractive language for me. However, I am not even intermediate Spanish. I am not beginner, far from it, but I have not yet reached the midpoint. I can have conversations, simple ones, but I cannot discuss, say, the political tide in Mexico, or anything too complicated. I am wondering if my Spanish is not yet good enough to start Portuguese without mixing the two up?
